Week #11 - Arushi Naidu - The Power of Balance

When I asked Google to define masculine energy, the results showed that having masculine energy is all about “doing” and being “action-oriented.” Considered the more predictable energy, masculine energy favors structure, rules, logic, and independence. I personally think of the masculine energy with the “go go go go!” mindset. We all have a part of masculine energy within us: our structure-oriented sides, our ability to tackle an action plan, our strength in persona…there is always a percent of masculine energy that resides within us.

This masculine energy is what is often associated with power and leadership and it is the character that people believe they must adopt in order to reflect a strong front. The leaders of America, the CEOs of companies, even the captains of sports teams all subconsciously adapt to these characteristics because that is what society has deemed powerful and worthy of respect. But I believe in the power of balance.

Feminine energy is all about flow and dynamics and as the inverse of masculine energy, this personality is intuitive, creative, and empathetic and is ruled by a conscious that goes beyond the realm of rationality. And we all have feminine energy within us, some more dominantly than others. Overtime, the value of this feminine energy has been distorted, considered too “soft” to be powerful, too unpredictable.

I once heard an example that explained this balance to me perfectly: Masculine energy and feminine energy together are like a glass of water. The masculine persona is the glass that holds the shape of the feminine persona: the water. The water, flowy and undefined, needs the glass to take the shape of its surroundings and the glass, without the water is an empty cup and therefore is purposeless.

Harnessing the right amounts of feminine and masculine energy is what ultimately takes the shape of true power. The empathy and intuition of leadership is just as important as the action orient and structure and in today’s world, we lose sight of the importance of how striking this balance is what allows us to leading purposeful lives.

  2. Hi Arushi! I loved your topic today! It is an amazing topic that I have not read a lot about, and it felt like a mini psychology lesson! The cohesiveness and duality of both feminine and masculine energy was fascinating to read about, and I completely agree with the fact that everybody has some degree of both types of energies. These traits can be portrayed in any individual, despite their gender; I like how you did not constrict the energies of individuals but demonstrated how both masculine and feminine energy is needed to balance each other out. The quote you gave about how feminine and masculine energy was like a cup of water, was inspiring; it helped me see how both are needed for society to function, and how one is not better than the other but equal. Power itself can be broken down into these innate energies, and I totally agree with the fact that both are needed for a balanced and successful leader in all. The power of balance is beautifully portrayed in your blog, and it was great to see how energy and characteristics within individuals are actually connected in a powerful way. Good work!

  3. Hey Arushi, your blog was such a fun read! First of all, your focus on the psychology behind the terms “masculine” and “feminine” is such an interesting way to craft a blog. I enjoyed reading about how masculine energy is all about the “go go go” mindset that leadership and logic calls for, and how feminine energy is all about intuition, creativity, and empathy. True to what you say, these traits do seem to blend together pretty effortlessly. I especially love how you specified that anyone can exhibit any type of these energies. Your analogy relating the glass of water to masculinity and femininity served as a wonderful example to help me visualize your claim. Balance is very important in life, and it was definitely interesting seeing your take on balance in terms of masculinity and femininity. Good job on your blog!

  4. Hey Arushi! I like how you conveyed masculine and feminine energy as a balance rather than opposites. The glass water analogy makes sense as too much structure without creativity feeks rough, but too much flow without direction feels lost. Society has conditioned us to see power as masculine, linking leadership with control, structure, and dominance, while dismissing intuition and empathy as weak. Yet the best leaders usually use both strategies as they can inspire, connect, and understand others better. If more people recognized the importance of balance, there’d probably be a shift from, authoritative driven power to something that actually uplifts people instead of trying to control them. When we lose sight of this crucial balance, it gets harder to lead the life we want. From you blog, I learned this lesson which I’ll try to keep with me going forward.
